Today, LucasFilm (via StarWars.com) announced that The Last Jedi director Rian Johnson (Looper) would be taking the reins on a brand new Star Wars trilogy of films.
Does this mean that Rey and Finn will continue their adventures beyond the previously announced episode 9? Not necessarily. According to the report, Johnson will be writing and directing the films which will “introduce new characters from a corner of the galaxy that Star Wars lore has never before explored.”
Sounds good to me.
“We all loved working with Rian on The Last Jedi,” said Kathleen Kennedy, president of Lucasfilm. “He’s a creative force, and watching him craft The Last Jedi from start to finish was one of the great joys of my career. Rian will do amazing things with the blank canvas of this new trilogy.”
In related news, Twitter is abuzz due to a Wall Street Journal entertainment reporter’s tweet, which you can see below:
Seems that Star Trek won’t be the only geek series on a streaming service, though the Disney-backed one seems like a much better offering when backed by Marvel, Pixar and their ilk. So how much will you have to shell out for that?
Curious what the Marvel streaming series will be. Could it be the New Warriors show that was recently announced not to air on Freeform as previously planned? Could be. But that means we’ll have to wait an awful long time as Disney is still expected to be with Netflix through 2018.
Stay tuned for more news as it develops!
