Pottermore, author JK Rowling’s personal portal for all things Harry Potter, is reporting that Jude Law will play a young Albus Dumbledore in the upcoming sequel for Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them.
In the Harry Potter films, set in the present day, Dumbledore is the headmaster of Hogwarts. He’s an old man who is both very wise and very powerful…the only person that the dark wizards truly fear. But he wasn’t always that way, and Law will bring a new side to the legendary figure.
At this point in the story he is the wizarding school’s Transfiguration professor and a contemporary of Gellert Grindelwald – the Dark wizard we met in Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, played by Johnny Depp.
While not my first choice for Dumbledore, Law is an exceptional actor and will be great as the beloved wizard.
Fantastic Beast and Where to Find Them 2 (name likely to change) is scheduled to apparate into theaters on November 16, 2018 and is being directed by David Yates. Law joins returning stars Eddie Redmayne, Katherine Waterston, Ezra Miller, and Johnny Depp. Also cast is Zoe Kravitz who had a brief cameo (in a photo) as Leta Lestrange.
