Growing up, I was never the biggest fan of Star Trek. Watching The Next Generation put me to sleep at night, but I did follow Deep Space 9, Voyager, etc. However, with J.J. Abrams successfully rebooted film franchise, Star Trek has reached a brand new audience, and CBS is capitalizing on that with their new series Star Trek: Discovery.
This new series, however, breaks the mold of those that have come before, choosing to focus on one of the ship’s lieutenants as the series’ protagonist, rather than the captain. That lieutenant was previously cast with The Walking Dead‘s Sasha, Sonequa Martin-Green.
Now today, we have word that the captain she’ll report under will be Captain Lorca, as portrayed by Jason Isaacs. While most will know Isaacs as Lucius Malfoy from the Harry Potter series, let’s not forget that he has captain experience, having played Captain Hook in 2003’s Peter Pan.Green.
Malfoy Isaacs joins Martin-Green as well as the previously cast Doug Jones, Anthony Rapp & Michelle Yeoh. There is no word on when the new series will debut, as production has been delayed several times already.
