When the Gamecube launched, there were only a handful of games that were any good, so we sat around playing NHL Hitz. And we had an absolute blast with it. A goalie with a horse’s head named Pecker. Hell yes! And we weren’t even drunk.
Today, we get word (by way of press release) that the Switch is a getting a new hockey game, and I have to say, watching the video below, it feels more Hitz than the EA NHL games. The game has an arcade style mode, so maybe NBA Jam for hockey is a better comparison, especially as the nets catch fire.
What further separates this game from the EA offerings is the unique gameplay options:
With various control schemes to choose, players can use arcade 2-button controls to more modern controls. In addition to these familiar controls, a unique “Beer Mode” control scheme allows players to play with one hand and hold their drink in the other!
The game comes from Vancouver-based (no surprise there, right?) V7 Entertainment and promises to be:
A game that harkens back to old-school arcade hockey of yesteryear where blood on the ice is just another day at the rink. 70s afros, big moustaches, no helmets, dirty hits, bench-clearing brawls, goalie fights, stick fights, ref abuse and literally lighting it up– that’s right – aggressive hockey is back in town!
The game will be available in March in all the usual places: PS4, Steam, Xbox One. It will be available on Switch later in 2017.
