Nintendo announced today via Press Release that the new Zelda: Breath of the Wild will be getting DLC.
Available at launch, the “Expansion Pass” will serve as a season pass for DLC, allowing players access to content that will be released in waves. For only $19.99, players will be given three new treasure chests (as well as a LOT more content. The first chest has been announced as a shirt that Link can wear that has the Switch logo on it. The other two chests have not been revealed, but Nintendo promises “useful items” to come.
The first wave of DLC hits this summer and will deliver a harder game mode, some new feature for the world map, and a “Cave of Trials” challenge.
During the holiday season, the next DLC wave will strike, stuffing “new challenges that will let players enjoy a new dungeon and a new original story” into your stockings.
While the announcement of DLC for this title, especially right out of the gate, may seem a little surprising, Nintendo decided that although the game was the biggest and most daring game they’ve ever released, “the game world provides a rich canvas that offers the opportunity for additional adventures. As a result, the first-ever downloadable content for the main-line Legend of Zelda series is in development.”
Fitting that this news should come out on Valentine’s Day, as it proves Nintendo does love its fans.
DLC will be available for both the Switch and Wii U versions of the game. Zelda launches on March 3rd.
