Baby Groot Growing Up For Infinity War?

Tonight, when my wife and I came home from dinner, the kids were watching The Pacifier.  After telling them he was the voice of Groot, they asked what other movies he was in, because he looked familiar.  So I pulled up his page on IMDB to see if there would be another movie they might know him from, since they haven’t seen the Fast and Furious flicks or Riddick.

That’s when I noticed something.  Now, take this with the proverbial grain of salt, as this is far from a hard fact, just simple speculation.

His next film to come out, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, lists Diesel as playing Baby Groot.  The next listing after that is for Avengers: Infinity War, where his character is listed as simply Groot.

Does this mean that the baby grows up in time to meet some new friends and take on Thanos?  With Director James Gunn saying that only a short amount of time has passed between the 1st and 2nd Guardians films and no way of really knowing when those movies are set or how much time passes between the end of Vol. 2 and Infinity War, anything could happen, but this new rumor I’m starting now (that an adult Groot will be in the next Avengers film) could also be backed by Diesel’s earlier claim saying Groot will fight the Hulk (eventually), something less likely to happen if Groot were only still a toddler.

Confirmation or denial will come in time.  I didn’t bother reaching out to Gunn, Marvel overlord Kevin Feige, or the Russo brothers (directors of Infinity War) for comment, but the renowned secrecy surrounding Marvel’s film projects would hardly allow them to confirm anything were it to be true.  Feel free to post you thoughts in the comments below.

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 will hit theaters on May 5, 2017 and Avengers: Infinity War will eventually get here on May 4, 2018, when all will be revealed.
