It’s been rumored for a couple of days now, but DC has confirmed today that the man who brought us the uncomparable Guardians of the Galaxy movies for Marvel Studios has now defected to camp DC.
That’s right, James Gunn is hard at work on the script for Suicide Squad 2. Rumor says he’ll also be directing, but time will tell on that one. I’m usually not a fan of people swapping teams like this, but in Gunn’s case, I can’t blame the guy.
In case you missed the story that broke over the summer, Gunn (who was attached to direct Guardians 3 for Marvel) was fired by Disney when some off-color Tweets he wrote a decade ago were forced back into the public eye. Given all of the times that I’ve screwed up and said or done something I later regretted, I can’t possibly fault the man for it and thought he got a bum wrap, but the tweets were definitely not good and didn’t gel with the Disney family image.
We serve a God that specializes in forgiveness and second chances, but Disney is not that God, so I guess we have to forgive them, too. Ha!

While the first Suicide Squad movie certainly had its fans, I think most will agree that it’s not the movie they were hoping it would be and with Gunn’s involvement, it will certainly be a more entertaining second outing. It remains to be seen if any characters from the original return for the sequel or if we get a new roster this time out… Stay tuned for more as it develops.
