The New “The Last Jedi” Trailer Portends Ominous Events and Cute Creatures

If you’re a Star Wars fan, this likely needs no introduction.  During the football game on ESPN last night, Disney and LucasFilm released an intense new trailer for The Last Jedi, the 8th installment in the Star Wars series.

Kylo Ren vs. Leia. Finn vs. Phasma. Rey vs. … Everyone?  The trailer makes it pretty clear that this is her movie, and it looks like she butts heads with everyone from Luke to Snoke before finding comfort in Kylo Ren.  But we know scenes can be taken out of context in trailers for maximum dramatic value, so we’ll have to wait and see what does actually happen.  However, it would be an interesting development if the “Last Jedi” in the title meant that Rey became a Sith.

The movie hits theaters on December 15.  Below, you’ll find the new poster that accompanies it.

Hulu and Marvel Release first Official Trailer for “Runaways”

The next big series from Marvel is coming to Hulu, and while there’s been a level of mystique to it before, now we get a first-look trailer…officially.  Some of this stuff, you may have seen in a bootleg from ComicCon, but this is a little more hi-res.

The series looks like a solid watch.  The books were great and begged for an adaptation of some sort pretty much since its inception.

If you aren’t familiar with the books, the story revolves around 6 kids that discover their parents collectively form a super villain group called the Cabal.  The kids then “runaway” from their evil folks and end up doing battle against them.  That’s the premise and the first story arc in the comics… it sort of goes off the rails after that.  So no promises on what happens in the later seasons, but season 1 should be good TV.

The series hits Hulu on Tuesday, November 21st.

The Justice League Unite in Epic Final Trailer

Well, it’s safe to say that DC hasn’t exactly had the greatest track record with their movies lately, but Wonder Woman was a solid hit (and a great movie), and Justice League looks to lighten things up from the doom and Martha gloom that was BvS.

The humor serves the trailer well, and the action is on-point.  The soundtrack scores, as well, with the remake of “Heroes.”  If you’re still on the fence with this one, your magic 8-ball should be saying, “Signs Point to Yes” now on whether or not this will be any good.

We’ll find out on November 17 when the movie hits theaters.

New MMO Dual Universe is Coming!!

Game developer NovaQuark is looking to redefine the gaming industry with the impending Dual Universe, an MMO that seems to cross WoW with Minecraft…and it doesn’t stop there.

The game had a HUGE success on Kickstarter and has reached a public pre-alpha stage for a very limited number of players in the near future.  To celebrate, the rest of us just get a shiny new trailer to “ooh” and “aaah” at.

At the heart of Dual Universe is a truly innovative proprietary technology, which was developed to lay the foundations of the game. The CSSC (Continuous Single-Shard Cluster) manages one single universe with potentially millions of people interacting in it at the same time. Inside the CSSC is also a multi-scale voxel engine that enables players to physically modify the world; dig a hole, carve up a mountain or build anything they want, from space ships to orbital stations.

Novaquark is building a virtual world environment where they hope millions of people will be able to live exciting collective adventures within a vibrant and emergent universe where everything is possible. The company aims at creating a new form of entertainment, where participants are free to create their own stories and environment, economy, political systems, warfare, etc. The vision for Dual Universe is to create the first virtual online civilization, a vision close to Ernest Cline’s Oasis in Ready Player One.

If you aren’t familiar with Ready Player One, you will be soon, as the movie is on its way.  In the meantime, since you can’t even play Dual Universe right now, go grab a copy of the book.  You’ll thank me.

PC Horror Game “Inmates” Proves Prison is the Scariest Place

Well, Halloween is just around the corner, and if you’re looking to get into the spirit, then peep this.

Inmates is a psychological horror game that hits Steam on October 5, and the folks that have been hard at work on it are generating some buzz for it with a stellar and creepy launch trailer:

Inmates is a psychological horror game with puzzle elements in which you must find out the truth behind your confinement and uncover the dark secrets of the run-down prison you find yourself in.

You’ve awoken from a nightmare, Jonathan. But did it truly end? You are in a seedy prison cell and have no clue how you got there. You’re terrified and confused, but you also feel something else: a painful sense of familiarity. You’ve convinced yourself this is all just a bad dream.

Unfortunately, according to the voice coming from the old radio, things are not as simple as you’d like them to be…

To me, there’s nothing creepier than a haunted prison…except maybe a haunted hospital…or a haunted elementary school.  But let’s face it, ghost kids are the worst!  While we don’t typically cover Steam exclusive games, this one looks special and deserves a mention.

If you’re a PC gamer, here’s the highlights:

  • Intense and mind-bending puzzles
  • Suffocating setting
  • Disturbing imagery
