ABC and Marvel released the synopsis for the finale of Marvel’s Agents of SHIELD season 4 finale today. With it, comes the surprising news that Robbie Reyes, who disappeared to parts unknown (Hell?) at the end of this season’s first batch of episodes, will return for the finale. And it sounds like he arrives just in time!
“World’s End” – With the surprising emergence of Ghost Rider, Coulson and the team attempt to stop Aida from ending the world on the exciting season finale of “Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.,” TUESDAY, MAY 16 (10:00–11:00 p.m. EDT), on The ABC Television Network.
What’s more surprising, however, is the inclusion of Mack’s daughter, Hope, in the cast list. At this point, one would assume they’d be out of the framework (which the exclusion of Ward also appears to confirm), and Hope is dead in the real world. Does this mean that Hope somehow makes it out of the digital world and is given a flesh and blood body with Aida’s machine? It was a theory that fans were hoping would happen for Ward and possibly Triplett, and something that was subsequently shot down by the showrunners. I guess we’ll see.
Also, I’m a bit confused. When we ended the LMD pod of episodes, the showrunners heavily teased in interviews that Graviton, aka Dr. Franklin Hall, would finally return. Hall, you may remember, was a SHIELD scientist way back in Season 1 that was consumed by an experimental element known as Gravitonium. The end of Season 1 showed the Gravitonium liberated from SHIELD custody by a villainous Ward and John Garrett and return to Ian Quinn, Hall’s partner. Thus far, there has been no sign of Hall returning as the superpowered villain. With any luck, he’ll make his appearance in the finale’s stinger, setting up an arc in the yet-to-be-renewed season 5.
