Marvel's Inhumans Casts Its King

Casting is well underway for this Fall’s new debut from Marvel TV.

Today, Marvel announced the king of the Inhumans and the ne’er-spoken leading man will be none other than Ansel Mount of Hell on Wheels fame.

If you don’t know, the king’s name is Blackagar Boltagon, but he goes by the much more palatable name of Black Bolt.  The gig should be pretty easy for Mount, at least when it comes to memorizing his lines, because Black Bolt doesn’t speak.  His Inhuman ability is that the sound of his voice causes destruction on the level of destroying buildings.  He’s the epitome of the strong, silent type.

Jeph Loeb, who is the TV equivalent of Kevin Feige (the MCU guru), advised, “Anson loves the challenge of playing a character who will only communicate silently. His enthusiasm mixed with his imposing almost regal persona made it easy to see why he is our Black Bolt.”

The news is slightly disappointing, as fans were hoping Vin Diesel would take the crown here.  Diesel, who serves as the voice of Groot in Guardians of the Galaxy, has long-teased his involvement with the project, as a role he would embody but not voice, but that was when the MCU was scheduled to release the Inhumans theatrically.  Speculation was that Diesel would not follow the project to television, but fans remained hopeful that the shorter seasons would be enticing enough to keep him.

Mount joins Iwan Rheon, previously cast as Black Bolt’s brother, Maximus, and showrunner Scott Buck (Dexter, Iron Fist).  More casting announcements should follow.

The first two episodes of Marvel’s Inhumans will debut this fall exclusively in IMAX theaters before finishing its first season on ABC.
